I totalled my car right after my insurance cancelled. My friend and i are severly injured. What do i do?

Basically i may be charged with a DUI. Don't think so though... For insurance i found out it was cancelled when i called to make a claim. They said they mailed it to my old address and sent me and email. I never receive and email but i don't check it that often. My friend and I rush to the hospital via ambulance and both got MRI's. He ended up with a fractured neck that will heal in a few months, but he has a lot of dentistry to go. I believe that I will have to hire i laywer and try to lower anything as much as i can. Otherwise I have no idea what to do or how to handle this. Also making 9.25 an hour doesnt help either. Any ideas?

Why are YOU hiring a lawyer? To defend yourself? You can't sue anyone - you were the DUI! You're going to have to pay your medical bills, and fix your own car.

And if your friend sues you, you'll have to pay his medical bills, dental bills, and pain and suffering. Don't worry about the $9.25 an hour - your wages can be garnished for DECADES to pay for this.

Why don't you take responsibilty for your actions and pay for you and your friends medical bills like you should do?

If it wasn't bad enough that you could have killed your friend and now you want to get out of paying his medical bills?

You should have had insurance, It is not their fault that you don't check your e-mail or inform them of your new address.

Suck it up pay the bills, and just be glad you aren't going to jail for murder.

Thank God your both alive !!!!!! Im sorry to tell you , but if it was your fault,single car crash,with alcohol involved , you are responsible for all damages. Get medical attention and talk to a bankruptcy lawyer to make arrangements to to pay the bills as you can. Sorry my friend !! Good luck !!

Yes brace yourself you get all the bills for the hospital ,your car and whatever you hit.And your friend will probably sue you to pay all there bills and dentist. Plus time off work lost wages and any therapy.The lawyer may help you but your pretty much stuck. ..................UJN

i'm assuming that you had insurance up untill your accident right.. SUE YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. THAT'S JUST ONE OF MANY REASONS WHY WE HAVE INSURANCE. if they canceled on you because of your accident then SUE...i would sue them just for being STUPID. why in god's name would we pay for insurance if we are not EVER going to use it??? it does'nt matter if you were drinking...they still have to pay. good advice...DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. good luck to you and your friend. call a lawyer ok??

You were driving drunk -- wrecked your car-- injured yourself and your passenger... a broken neck no less.....no lawyer is going to be able to get you out of that.

Your passenger will end up filing a claim against his own auto policy (if he has one) and file a claim under his Uninsured Motorist Coverage. However, his medical bills could easily exceed any coverage he has available. That means - he would have to sue you for the balance.

Now - if you don't own anything - he may not sue you - it's the whole can't get blood from a stone thing. Or - he may go ahead and sue you - get a judgment and keep it on the record. If you ever come into any assets - his judgment can get paid.
