For anyone who recieves SSI or SSD?

I called the claims examiner who has been handling my ssi/ssd claim to see if they have reached a desicion on my claim. She informed me that she has sent my application back to the main office where I had originally applied. She also told me to call them on friday, due to the fact that they will inform me as to when I should be recieving the desicion on the mail. I have read on the internet on several websited that when they deny you, you get the denial letter straight from the dds office, yet when they approve you, you get the notice of approval from your local office (district office where you applied) is this true?

It is highly unlikely that you will get your disability on the first go-round.

Save yourself a lot of time and heartache by doing this: When you get your Notice of Determination, read through it. As soon as you get to the word "disapproved", call an attorney.

Look in the phone book under attorney until you see one who take social security cases.

Call them!

I have never heard of any adult getting their disability any other way.

Once you get a lawyer, it should be a breeze.

I don't know, but in my part of the world, the ssi claims office automatically denies your claim 3 times before they will approve it, even if you are in the process of dying. A friend of mine had a mother-in-law that was diagnosed with incurable cancer and they gave her six months to live- the ssi denied her claim 2 times- on the third time she was to show up at the appeal hearing she was in the hospital and was on I.V.'s She had to be transported by ambulance and carried by medics on a gurney to the office- the judge took one look and said, this is ridiculous and granted her claim- this is how the gov. takes care of it's citizens
