How badly have I damaged my future?

I am in substantial debt,and sought help from a debt consolidation company, and was misled by them, and can't make ends meet even with their "help". They lied about where the money I'm paying them every month is going to, and lied about the fact that they would call my creditors and end the harassing calls. I still get about 5 to 7 calls a day. When I've called the company representing me about why I was still being harassed via phone and mail, they told me, "no you misunderstood us, you need to talk with the creditors and give them our phone number". If I had known that, I never would have done business with them. They promised me an end to the calls.They are not representing me like they said they would, and in addition are not handling my money as they agreed too. Can I legally terminate their services, and sue them? I have made an appointment with a Bankruptcy lawyer, that's how bad things have gotten. I already feel ashamed of myself, please only serious people respond.

Many debt consolidation companies out there are a scam. Stop paying them and file a complaint against them.
Now, regarding those calls from creditors. Send each of them a certified letter stating that you do not wish to be contacted regarding the debt. Once they receive this letter, they can not legally contact you except to acknowledge the letter or to inform you of any disposition of the debt.
Now, once you got those calls and letters to stop, try doing your own debt consolidation. Contact each creditor and ask what is the minimum amount they will accept in consideration of canceling the debt. Often creditors are willing to take as little as 50% as payment in full versus getting nothing. Once you're done making these calls, you can calculate your total debt and start saving up. Before you make any agreed upon partial payments, get the agreement in writing.

Do read the agreement which you have signed with them. If you don't have any agreement, then you can terminate their services immediately. Tell your lawyer about it and see if he can also assist you in getting a redress on this issue.

just stop paying them that will terminate there services and change you phone number but make sure the phone company does not have it forwarded that will stop the calls
