I pay for an unpublished number, now it's in the phonebook - what can I do?

So, I've been paying for an unpublished number for the past year and a half. It is $2.50/mo. I do this because my husband has the same name as his father, who works at a maximum security prison and handles discipling of inmates. You never know if someone will get out and have a grudge. BTW - His father also has an unpublished number for same reason.
SO - here is my problem.
I was informed by a family member that our name AND address was listed in the most recent phone book! I opened mine up and lo and behold - there it is!
So what can I do? I plan on calling the cable company and getting reimbursement for the "unpublished fee" - but I need more than that. I have little kids at home - what if someone just shows up at my door?

Wow. I would get an attorney and I'd get one fast. If they think you have a valid case against the phone company, they'd probably take it on a contingency fee, which means you wouldn't pay upfront. But I'd think it would be fair to demand round the clock protection...or even more! Having your home address printed is huge!

However, it goes without saying that just make sure the payments were always current and that there wasn't something you were supposed to do 6 months ago to "renew" it that you didn't do.

Well, they certainly are not going to go around and pick up all those phonebooks they handed out. So about all you can do is 1. Have them reimburse all that you paid for the service. 2. Have them change your phone number at no charge. 3. I would consider asking them to waive that fee for you for a certain amount of time, sort of like restitution. They should do it for free after making that mistake.

firsst i would call ure phone company n tell them how u feel but if u get mean with thm they will lie to u, i hope u can get ure money but i soubt it, n if i were u i would hve 911 on mjy speed dial,i would think if u wanted to take this futher,u can call a lawyer ask him what ure options r,cause of the circumstnces,u may have to if u want anyf money,n lawyers willl give u free advice hopoeing to handel ure case,good luck

Call the telephone company and have them rectify the situation. They will argue with you, but be firm. It will be necessary to get a new number, this should be at the phone company's expense since it was their error.
