I need advice on renters rights in Texas...? |
My wife and I were renting a mobile home here in Texas. There was never an agreement/lease term for the house. After a few months living there the mobile home park was sold to different owners but still no lease was signed. Anyways, the new owners hired a "community manager" to handle all the repairs of the houses in the park. One day our A/C decided to go out and we reported it to the community manager and the next day someone was there looking at our unit. The result was a defective compressor in which they told the community manager about. A month passed we heard nothing so I called again and the response was " we know of the problem", After this the floors of the home started to cave in and notice was given of that but no response was given in return. 4 months 2 months went by and nothing was done of the problems so we decided to move in with my wifes mother which also live in the same park but own their own home. Well this lady decides she doesnt want us there and decides to start sending us threatening letters stating that " we need to move or else" and " she doesnt want to see us in the park or else". Now mind you shes not the owner or landlord shes just there for repairs and rent payment. Anyhow, she tells my sister-in-law that " its not my wife she wants out but me only due to the facial expressions I have". What I need to know if this is legal or do I have a solid case of discrimination, unethical business practices, and personal problems from her. I have called the OWNERS of the park and have not gotten a response, but from what we are told the owner himself is there every other Tuesday but have never seen him. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please serious answers ONLY... I understand. I was in a similar situation and I actually called the local news station and they did a piece where they called out the management on their negligence. It was awesome. They disliked me from that point on but I got a new AC and whenever I had a repair that had to be done it was done so promptly. Also keep a log of all the repairs and work orders you put in. They are required to make your home habitable in a reasonable amount of time. Good luck. |
