How Do I Handle a relationship That Is Toxic to our FAMILY? |
24 YR DAUGHTER CONTINUES TO HAVE "REALTIONSHIP" (TALK -SEX) BEHIND OUR BACKS WITH A DRUGGIE SOCIOPATH .THIS OLD BF .CAME W/ 5 YRS OF DRAMA . WE THOUGHT IT WAS OVER WE ARE CONTINUALLY BEING BROUGHT INTO THIS. SHE HAS BEEN SNEAKING BUT WE FOUND OUT WHEN COPS CALLED OUR HOUSE AND TOLD US THAT FURN ETC WAS DUMPED IN THEIR TOWN W/ HER NAME ALL OVER IT FROM THEIR OLD APT.THEY USED TO LIVE IN. HE DUMPED IT AND SHE WENT TO HELP HIM CLEAN IT UP AFTER THE COPS CALLED HIM AND HE DENIED IT..NOW HER BROTHER IS CALLING ME A F...A... B. AND TELLING ME TO LEAVE HER ALONE.HES ANOTHER DRUGGIE.HIS WHOLE FAMILY USES THE SAME "POOR US -TAKE CARE OF US" AND HE IS KNOWN FOR DRUGS. I WANT TO SHUT THE DOOR ON THEM BUT SHE KEEPS OPENING IT AND I AM WAITING FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO HAPPEN.I WANT TO TELL HER SHE IS NOT COMING HOME ANYMORE. IM MAD AT HER. SHE SMART BEAUTIFUL AND HAS A GREAT JOB IN THE CITY. BUT SHE KEEPS GETTING SUCKED IN BY THIS FAMILY. The more you dissaprove the more she will stick by him, don't badmouth him, it will backfire! Just have a heart to heart with her and tell her that as long as she sticks by this man you are "washing" your hands of this entire situation, refuse to talk about this people, to help, to comfort her when they fight etc, don't even ask her a word about him or the part of her life that includes him, as if he did not exist, change the phone # is you have to!... Tell her that YOUR life will not be interrupted by this family because you fear for your safety, sanity and lack of peace! Tell her you know this will end badly and since she is her own person you can't ask her to stay away (Expecially since she will do it behind your back), tell her she is beautiful, smart, loving, a great daughter! For every single negative give her at least 4 positives throughout this conversation, also mention that life is short and this drama just isn't worth it for you! (always talk from YOUR poin of view, what YOU want, WHat you need for yourself) Never from hers or she will feel you are controlling her! End the converstaion with a hug and I will e-mail you something else regarding this matter, but iw ish it to remain private, if you e-mail is private please e-mail me so that I may send extra instructions to ending this nightmare. |
