Depression?

I'm 17 and think that I might be depressed but I'm too embarassed to call and make an appointment b/c when I make appointments the woman on the phone asks why I need to see him(my doctor) and I dont feel that anyone except my doctor should know about my situation. So I get embarassed. How do I handle this?

Tell the receptionist it is a personal issue you only feel comfortable discussing with the doctor. They have to respect that right. Also, a doctors office only does that usually to give a brief description to the doctor so he is semi prepared for the visit. That is all. Don't feel bad though you would be surprised how many people struggle with this.

If your parent knows, have a parent make the appt for you. I assume this might not be an option, so when the receptionist asks why, you can tell her it is due to loss of appetite, feeling very tired, insomnia, an upset stomach, or whatever ails you. If you suspect you are depressed, you have some symptoms, so just let her know some basic ones. When the doctor sees you, just be sure to be completely honest.
