Why does my rabbit bite/nip at me?

Hi there!

I have a 12 week old dwarf lop eared rabbit.

We're trying to get her used to being handled and we've been bringing her inside for a bit of a cuddle and a play of a night time.

She has been sitting on my shoulder and she starts off just licking me and sometimes eating my hair (???), but twice now, she has given me a little nip.

The first time, she was happily licking away at my ears and then I felt her teeth more than got a bite off her. The second time, she was licking my neck and just gave me a little nip (I wouldnt call it a bite and it doesnt really hurt, just gives me a little fright!).

I was just wondering if anyone knows why she might be doing this?

She doesnt seem to be scared (when I go to her hutch or outside pen, she runs to where I am and sticks her nose thru for pets and seems to like cuddles) and she doesnt struggle to get off me or anything - just moves all over me licking!

Thanks for the replies - I'm glad it seems like she likes me and doesnt hate me!

She was the runt of her litter and is still so smally and I've never had a pet before, so I'm second guessing everything and very worried I'm going to do something wrong!

dont worry about it... my rabbit used to do that wen i first got it.. he/she is probably getting used to u... after awhile he stopped biting me... it wasnt like it was mad or anything.. i cant really explain y he did that but it is nothing to worry about.. i am sure ure rabbit knoes that ure the one feeding him and stuff so he wont do anything to hurt u on purpose..he doesnt hate u and thats for sure.. hope this helps..

yes it's true they are love bites unless the rabbit grunts and kicks then they are h8 bites

It's just a love bite. Just don't stick your hand under her chin, she might get upset and claw/bite you.
