In a conflict with a lawyer. How to handle w/out losing my shirt?

m in a paralegal program. I onlyh hvae four classes left to finish my degree. I complained about an instructor not returning phone calls. the department chair (who is also a lawyer) lied and said I asked him to "bend the rules." he told the dean above him this. I filed a complaint with the dean about him for lying. He was adimatly sticking to his story he thinks he can say wahtever he wants becuase he is a lawyer and im just a student. Anyhow, I have 4 classes left, and I will HAVE to tkae one with him (hes the only oen teaching it) and one with the teacher who i complained about not returning his phone calls. the dean is currently investigating the complaint. What are my chances of being able to finish witout these jerks harassing me or failing me on purpose or trying to get me kicked out of the program?? any tips on how to deal w/ all this?

i also yelled @ the dept chair via email and called him a liar and said i was repulsed by his actions.

First never state anything in an e-mail that you will have problems with later.

Second, is there another school you can take this class at. I had a problem like your and had the opportunity to take the class somewhere else.

Third, remember that you need only to get through the program. There is a reason a high priced professional is in a low paying job--don't change the world just work with in it.

The frustration in these situation suck, but the best you can do is not support the school after graduation.

Not sure who is the jerk here, frankly.

You are going to have to rely on these guys and their colleagues for jobs forever. Is this what they have taught you about getting along, collegiality, and so forth?

Is the issue of the phone call really so important that it can't be resolved in any other fashion? As a paralegal, you will be expected to show judgment and independent problem solving skills. IMHO, while you may be 4 classes from graduating, this is an area where you may need to look deep inside yourself and see if you can catch up quickly to what is expected of you as a professional.

In the meantime, just keep your eye on the ball, which is your goal to be a paralegal. If any transaction is not helping that goal, then work to find a way to make it that way.

wow, talk about burning bridges. I'd look for another college that accepts transfer credits. I'm sure these people have enough ethics not to purposely fail you, but relations will be strained, you'll get little extra help, and zero leeway. Not a good situation.

Lesson learned? Always think twice before putting your mouth in gear, and think 5 times before committing it to email or a letter.
