You have heard of pay it forward. I do something like that but a little different. I call it "Random Acts of Kindness". In today's world gas prices are insane, people are loosing there houses and more and more job are being outsourced. You can blame these things on anything and there is not much we can do about it. So lets switch our focus and try to focus on this. The next time you are in the store help an older person with something on the top shelf. Return someones cart for them. Buy the person behind you in the drive thru their lunch or coffee. Give the homeless person a sandwich. Say a kind word to someone You will feel better about life and they will too. Look for nothing in return and ask for them to do nothing. They don't have to pay it forward they just have to enjoy your random act of kindness. ..I have found that doing this at times when i am down makes me feel 100% better. I don't have much but I feel good. If you have done this let me know.. If not tell me what you think

Helen, it is not something that comes naturally... people can make an effort and try if not how sad would that be

you know im a real supporter of Paying it forward...but today humanity has turned cold anymore.
over the last 2 years I found out i have 2 forms of cancer..I am not able to work anymore...we lost our house...My kids cant come see me anymore because they are starting to get old enough to get jobs ...my wife just recently just lost her job and now we have only $600 a month to live on for 4 people...

Yea id love to see some good luck in my life ..I dont Expect people to give me hand outs I want to earn my way in life but every which way i go i get shot down...

But I still will pay it forward every chance i can ..sometimes my family think im crazy but ..ya know ...if you look around...theres always someone out there you can make Smile and if you do ..that 1 more smile in their day they might pass on...

After i was found to have cancer i was awarded temporary disability thats what has paid my Dr bills.. the 600 is my monthly check from them...my wife just recently lost her job due to downsizing and what shes skilled in more and more are going to automation..
I love life so i do my best to keep my mind off of things by using my only escape..the internet

Surely doing all of that comes naturally, it's not something you try to do, you're either nice, helpful and friendly or you're not.

edit: What I was saying is that it's the right way to be. If you see someone who needs help surely 99% of people would help. Being kind sort of becomes invalid if you're only doing it to get brownie points

I think its an admirable and desirable way to be..... I know what you mean about bringing a smile to someone elses face and how that can make you feel 100% better in yourself. Keep it up my friend. The more kindness out in the ethos the better! What goes around comes around and all that!

lilxman, i don't mean to be disrespectful but, how do you pay rent for FOUR people (i'm guessing you're in America due to all your interests in American politics) AND have the internet???AND are you getting chemotherapy? because that costs a lot!

Yes,I try to do this each and every day.Most time an act of kindness costs nothing,a smile a wave ,a helping hand.What goes around comes around,and do onto others as you'd have them do on to you.I live by these thoughts.Well put and bully for you!

I have been doing it all my life... I understand how you feel, it's really wonderful feeling to help someone, to bright up someones day at least for some time........

You are absolutely correct. If only the governments would follow suit and exemplify these random acts of kindness then the remaining points in your question would assuredly not arise.

I have shown a few "Random Acts of Kindness". The latest was when I was still working at a grocery store, I was very unhappy with my job and management. A customer came by who I had helped at my last job as a guitar technician, he's a friendly acquaintance, I'll call him Jim. He told me he'd recently had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and that he still had to go through treatment. The drugs had him moving very slowly. His wife had sent him to the store with what he called "a ridiculous grocery list". So I took the next twenty minutes running around the store fetching all the items on his list. I don't know if it made his night or anything, but he definitely expressed his gratitude and claimed that it would have taken him forever to get it done had he proceeded un-assisted. I don't think I'm a wonderful person for doing this, and I'm certainly not self righteous. But taking a few minutes to help Jim out absolutely made me feel good, not about myself, just in general. I like your idea, it's very positive and I hope people take to it.
