I'm sorry that I didn't show up
Overhere things are real bad
But Congratulations Grad
Your going to make it ya know.

I'm really proud of you
In more ways than I can show
just keep your head up child
& keep moving forward.

I wanna say I love you,
How many times must I stress
I know I don't call you that much
But I'm really trying my best.

to make amends for my wrongs
I just want you to be strong
I know I haven't payed child support
but right now it's hard to find work.

Yep, things over here are alittle slow
but I love you and I hope you know
I want you to call me
Oh yeah, right they turned off my phone

But keep in touch somehow
I'll see you whenever I can
How old are you now about 17, 18?

after you explained that it was about your dad, i got it so much more and really liked.
The only constructive criticism I have that some of the stanzas rhyme and others do not. The whole poem would flow somewhat better if either all the stanzas rhymed or didn't rhyme. I personally vote for no rhyme!
Otherwise the poem is sadly touching. and my favorite stanza was the last one. It got the careless, neglectful, but aching loving attitude perfectly across.

it seems quite personal and it's nice that you're expressing yourself through poetry. I didn't really like the poem that much, that's just my opinion. I'm more into symbolic pieces.

Expressing your pain through poetry...that's great...

This poem shows a complete negative "I don't care; get over it" attitude. If you give this to your child he/she will never talk to you again. Stop making excuses and stop being a lousy Dad.

That was a beautiful interpetition of what one might feel...It doesn't sound as if you are bitter which is good....People have all sorts of things going on that we may not be aware of and I believe for the most part your dad is doing his best....you are very wise and strong....Congratulations of graduating ...alot of young people in your circumstances would have dropped out and you stayed true...You will lead the way for others and in doing so your healing will take place with your father...people love in the way they know how and it is up to us the more advanced free spirits to gently guide them.....Thanks for the beautiful poem...I read between your lines.....Have a wonderful summer....
