How to get to know a guy when don't see him often?

This week, I'm going to Chicago for my brother's hockey tournament. There's this captain that is so cute (yup, he's my age) and really sweet. I don't know him very well, but would love to. He seems like someone I would get along with great.

How can I find ways/excuses to talk to him? Would it be too forward to just flat out give him my number? Geez, I don't even know if he knows my name (he should since I've practiced with him on numerous occassions, but they all just call me 'Goalie')(but, if he doesn't know my name, he knows me by face 'cause I'm the only girl in our league) I saw him a couple of months ago and congradulated him after a win, and what surprised me the most was he actually said thank you.

I'm asking here because all of my girl friends are on dates right now, I only have a few, but they all have boyfriends.

Anywho- Any tips? I'm very excited about seeing him, but I don't want to scare him off or screw up.

Use your brother as a tool! Go out as a group and find a way to sit near. Flash a smile or start convos, if he responds then somewhat secretly give him your number. Chances are he will call...

Next time you go to the tournanament make sure you look your best when your there. Maybe have your bro find out if he is available first and have him pass the message that you are interested. Or, you could just approach him. Ask him some questions about hockey to start up a conversation. If you want to take a chance just give him your number. Its better to try something then not do anything about it and end up regreting it.

just go up to him and say hey wats up
he cant get scared off by that..and it would lead on to a conversation
then the next time you could talk to him more and flirt a little
so he would get a hint that you like him
and then just leave the next move up to him

After the game or a practice just be like "you did really good out there today" or "that was a great shot you made before!"

Definitely use your brother as a wedge. Tell him you'd like to get to know the guy; ask your brother what he knows about him and if he'll invite the guy to go with the two you for a snack/drink or something before/after the game and help you get to know him. Then when you've "set the stage" say something like that when he plans to be in your area he should definitely let you know so you can show him the sights - or something like that - and give him your number so he "can let you know when he'll be there."
