Air force credit check, will i be affected? |
I have to do the credit check, i know i about a total 2400 dollars to two credit card companies(one which has forwarded my account to a debt collection agency). I currently don't have a job right now and just got back from doing paperwork at the recruiters. He told me that if i did have any debt to resolve it asap. The credit company, not the collection agency, set me up with automatic payments for a few months. The other place i owe i haven't paid in over six months due to the cost of college. Anyway I called them and they are willing to settle for 1000, problem, is i don't have $1000. I have only 3 days before the offer expires according to the debt collector. My question will this 1400 dollars debt keep me out of the air force, i know i can pay it off within a few months, but they asking for immediate payment. I don't want to borrow money from my parents or want to ask any of my other family. What are my options here? Yes, it will. You have to have payment plans set up with each creditor. make usre you have a name and contact number for each creditor to hand in to your recruiter. he has to file for a financial waiver since you have this unpaid debt. The person processing your waiver will personally contact each creditor using the info you provided to make sure you have payments set up. If you are approved for the waiver, then you can enlist. When they run your background check for your clearance, you must also notate that you have unpaid bills but are on a payment plan. They will continue to be in contact with your creditors to make sure the debt is being paid as arranged. your credit will affect your chances of getting in along with obtaining a security clearance. Look at it this way and i am not bashing you on this, but if a creditor sees you as a credit risk, the AF will look at you the same way. You are an investment to them as all services stress their most valuable assets are personnel. It shouldn't do, but your credit might affect the levels of security access you are allowed. They monitor it on a regular basis if you are high security clearance and you can lose your clearance if it worsens. Best thing would be work on paying off the debts and write to the credit agencies. That is not a criminal record petal, that is a bad credit rating. The DF are human beings, they understand that people don't pay their debts on time. You should be fine!! =) yes |
