What do I do after being in a hit-and-run car accident (no injuries)?

I was stopped at a light and just after the light turned green an ambulance with sirens blaring came through the intersection, so of course, traffic stopped everywhere. I saw this before I started to move, and the dimwit behind me honked and flipped me off, even though I indicated there were sirens ahead and that everyone was stopped. He was being a total jerk. I started to drive forward and a police vehicle came through the intersection with lights on, so I quickly stopped again. I was going maybe 5 mph when I stopped, but I stopped hard. Dimwit hits my bumper, causes scratches. Because the plastic (not painted) bumper, it will have to be replaced instead of repaired. Guys tells me to move to the parking lot (after calling me a bunch of unrepeatable names) and then takes off. I get part of his tag number and give detailed description to police. Is there any way I can try to track down this guy with partial tag # & vehicle description? What to do now?

From my experience here in Texas, you've done all you can do. Keep on the police about their tracking this guy down. Hopefully you gave them a description of what the guy looked like too. I know I was once run into when I was with my very young kids (years ago), by a woman driving a pickup truck. She didn't seem to think much of it as she drove off down the highway till she saw me standing dang near out in the highway looking at her as she off. She got smart and returned pronto, and had the cash to pay the wrecker to haul my car off, and the wherewithal to pay for repairing my Volkswagen. I still remember she was in a two tone (brown and yellow) Ford pickup and had Arkansas plates. I knew a lot more back then, but then, that's been almost 20 years ago. You've done your best. Just keep in touch with the PD to "encourage" their pursuits of the criminal. If you reported this to your insurance company, they may also say hello to the PD a few times (with your "encouragement") so they won't have to pay anything. God Bless you.

try asking around where it happened at,some one might know him or might have got all the license number,and call the police any time anything like this happens,you need an accident report on it no matter what happens,chances are your insurance company may cover this one,but if they find him he will have to pay for your car being repaired ,plus he will get a ticket and a fine out of it,plus his insurance will repair your car,you can give the law the partial license plate number with a good description of the car,and they might find it,hopefully they will,good luck.
