Caught my in laws playing a game I like to call "your wife is a liar", called them out on it, they dissapear?

Last month I was getting ready for a huge family event, and texting my sister in law about her upcoming wedding at the same time. We started talking about how my husband wanted to go home to work w/ his dad for a week over the summer. Simple convo (I thought).
My phone starts to die so I ask to use his to make a call. He hands me his phone, and UP pops a text from his sister I had been talking to. And it says "WHY would your wife say this?(then she included a message I'd written that said "I guess he wants to go help your dad because your dad isn't doing well from what I heard?")
I didn't tell my husband he'd recieved the text, because I wanted to see what else she would say. They texts kept coming and coming. Her twisting my every word. I was standing there texting her w/ my phone, and she was forwarding some of them to him. So I called her out. From both phones. I said "we see what you are doing, stop causing problems. leave us alone". She called him later that night CRYING saying

"WHY would you say such HORRIBLE things to me?" he told her he hadn't said anything and that it was me...and she played it up. "Oh well she pretended to be you and said HORRIBLE things! They just kept coming! Horrible mean nasty things and I knew it wasn't you, I knew it! You wouldn't say that!" Yet she will not show him the "horrible messages I sent." (My word against hers!) HE BELIEVED HER!
So my mother in law is not innocent...she and his 14 yr old sis have been playing games weekly, saying horrid things to me like "you are big" "if he leaves you we will still talk to you" etc. The week before I caught her, they had all been saying things to him like "why would she say that?" "why would she DO this to us"? Just about RANDOM things. I had no idea it was going on until I caught her texting him!! So, I called her, his mom, and his younger sis out on it and they vanished! Wont talk to him OR me. Do you think it's b.c they got caught?

Some families too immature to accept that when you get married you form a NEW family that takes priority over the old one. You should be more committed to your spouse than your parents/siblings because that's who you intend on sharing your home with for the rest of your life.

I think they are jealous and you called them on it. Make sure you're pleasant should they be in touch but I wouldn't call to make amends.

ha ha ha thats hilarious how they went MIA since you caught a hold of what they were doing and confronted them.

I just hope your husband realized it is them and not you that has the problem.
