An 'electric bum' in horse riding?

I had my lesson today and my instructer said that the inexperianced horse i was riding responds to me by being more forward going then with anyone else. He said it is called an 'elelctric bum' lol well i was just wondering if this is a bad way the horse responds to me? is there something i am doing wrong (i have been riding for 8 years but had to stop for over a year and a half til now due to illness) so it is not as if i am a complete novice i just need to get back into the 'swing'. do you think this is a positive thing or not? thank you :D

it can be depending on what horse you're riding!!! ive had many kids with an "electric bum" and when i put them on the slow pokes its tremendous - they can get them to do anything. however when they are on a more hyper animal it can back fire and time must be spent making sure they keep calm, try and transmit nice relaxed deep breathing and a seat and hands without tension!!!! so it can be a positive thing but it means on inexperienced, more spirited animals you may need to be extra gentle with your aids, concentrate on slow, deep breaths and keep the pony as calm as possible. dont worry about it tho and if u are concerned check with your trainer what she exactly meant and how best she advises to overcome it if it should become a problem. good luck

It really depends on how the term was used. For example; if the horse is normally a little lazy or sluggish, then you can take this as a compliment, because it means that you were more positive than the other riders. If however, the horse is the sensitive type; this type of comment meant the opposite. ( in other words; rather than sitting quietly, you caused the horse to be more anxious.) I hope this makes sense.

you are being polite arent you? its called an electric 4rse. see, you can get it past the answers program if you are cute.
it simply means that you nip your 4rse when you feel unsure and the horse feels it through the saddle. they are quite sensitive if they are a high grade horse and will respond to very subtle commands. take it on board and try not to stiffen when you are aprehensive, just relax and hopefully the horse will not over react.

My bum turns eletric on my 19yr old 13.2 and it is definately not a negative thing, he just is waiting for what to do and the littliest signal will may him go! :L

It is...
Positive: If you are confident, and the horse is waiting for you and trusting you.

Negative: If you are nervous and the horse is picking up on that, so will go at the slightest thing.
