Do best friends really exist? Why bother?

I have a friend that I've known half my life.This person proclaims to be my best friend, but I don't see how.Whenever I need someone to talk to she is never around.But I am for her.She never answers her damn cellphone or it seems like she forwards me to voicemail when my number comes up.I am always here when she calls. She is diabetic and has convinced herself she is dying.Her doctor said nothing about her dying.She only convinced herself.She is feeling sorry for herself and wants everyone else to.If she truely was dying then certainly we would be together all the time.She is literally making herself sick from all the negativity.She is only 30 years old and is used to all of the attention on her.I am trying to be there for her, but I need her too.She can be very selfish at times.She has kids and is only thinking of herself and her problems.Sitting in a rocker chair is not a help.She keeps giving up.There are people worst off than her.She is pissing me off.Help?
