Looking for help with Athiests/Nihilists?

Calling out to all those who don't believe in a religion or anything else for that matter.

How do you cope every day knowing that there's nothing you can believe in other than deluding yourself to 'stay sane'?

I myself am constantly at the verge of ending my life. I don't think I will, but things are looking pretty damn depressing right now. I would just like to know what keeps you going, maybe it can work in my life as well.

I don't have a family so I can't depend on them for help, I'm very ill so I don't have my health to look forward to. Cannot work as my government won't file out the papers I need. Etc...

Many of you have mis-read my question. I don't want you to fix MY life. I would like to know what YOU do to live in your life without beliefs.

Also, I find it saddening for the person who took the time to 'research' me and say that I must be rich because only 'rich people can eat good food.' That's complete bullcrap.

I have been unable to work in a decade and have been homeless many times in my life yet I've always managed to find fresh food (fruits, grains, veggies, etc) and clean water.

All I can tell you is what I do.

Live.

That's it.

I live knowing that one day I will not. I don't worry about whatever comes after because if I did I'd be overlooking the present and those around me.

I do what makes me happy, and as long as it brings no harm to anyone else it's fine.

I'm not sure what to tell you to help you "stay sane" but all I can say is to not throw it all away.

If you don't believe in after life, you should be happy that your miserable life is coming to an end. It will be a relief. What do you expect others, whoever they are, to do to help, and what kind of help do you expect in your situation? Just spend the remaining days of your life welcoming death which will be your salvation.

I might sound cruel, but I am being honest and practical in my answer, since you said you didn't want any one to throw their religious beliefs at you.

even without god life is still an amazing gift that you've been given. think about the probability of you existing at all. of you being conscious. of you being who you are. practically impossible, and yet here you are. look at the world around you. there is so much beauty and diversity in nature... and it all arose spontaneously. its so improbable it may as well be called a miracle. you can have a reverent attitude towards life without recourse to the supernatural

Huh? I guess I "cope" because living is fun right now, but even when my life was not-so-fun, the thought of "ending it" never crossed my mind. Strong survival instinct, maybe?
