Sprained knee???

I was at figure skating practice. I was doing a silly little contest with my friend. We were doing a move called a spiral if you know what that is. It is when you put your leg behind you and skate forward. I put my leg up as high as I normally do but then I went higher and higher until it was almost all the way above my head. Normally it doesn't go that high. I fell flat on my knee and now there is a HUGE bruise on it. I have hurt my knee before and I just let it heal but it hurts even when I sit down. So should I put a brace on it or just leave it be.?

I think the best thing to do is to put a brace on it, and try not to put too much weight on it for a while. Maybe crutches if it hurts a lot. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

The knee joint is very complex with 4 ligaments stabilizing it on the sides and in the front and back, in addition to c-shaped cartilages between you shin and thigh bones called menisci. The cartilage on the back of you kneecap can get scuffed up and inflamed too. The only way to know what is wrong with your knee is to see your doctor, which I suggest you do. They can take an x-ray to make sure there is not a small break. They can also prescribe you a short course of medication to help with pain and swelling if they feel that is appropriate.
