Should the "N" word end a friendship?

Me and my good friend of a couple of years were hanging out at a party and suddenly I hear the "N" word being used in conversation. To a great shock it was my good friend (I'm black and she's white). She explained that she only uses it when she's talking about "stupid" people (no matter what color the person). I explained right away that it's a derogatory word used towards black people. Whatever way spelled... I told her that I didn't like her using it. She apologized and said she wouldn't use it any more. -Fast forward 2years later. She hasn't used the word (around me) since and then, it comes up again. Its like we never had the first conversation. I confront her again... again she apologizes. And then the very next day, she says it again. I said nothing. She has never called me the "N" word. In my heart I know that she is not racist. I just don't know what to say or do anymore. This happened last week, I haven't talked to her since, she probably has no clue, am I overreacting?? Ahhh!

This is what I like to call, a closet bigot. Now she says she would never call YOU a N**** but if she did not know you personally and she you got into an argument...would she?
I have had the same problem. The fact that she uses it at all shows that she has no respect for your background. That word is hurtful to black people and she obviously doesn't care because if she was really your friend she would NEVER use it and shun others for using it. There is NO WAY you are over reacting. You do not need friends like that.
There are a lot of people in this world that put on a front and say they are not racist. They love black people until their daughter or son brings home a black boyfriend or girlfriend....they love black people until they are alone and see one walking down the street toward them...thinking "oh no are they going to rob me?" ....they looove black people until they get mad and then we are suddenly stupid N******....

Stay away from these people...and go rent the movie "Crash" because I think you would appreciate its message.

Don't know, I'm in an interracial marriage and very sensitive about racial remarks. I don't usually associate with those who make them in my presence. Of course in some towns these days, that would mean you wont have anybody to talk to.
Hey your an intelligent person,( your language and syntax show that) you deserve to be treated with respect.

the -ga ending one is very popular these days no matter what background you are from

but out of respect for you, she definitely should not say it...or have ever said it

so if you arent ever good friends with her again it's because she disrespected you on several occasions
