Car hesitation for a few seconds as if its stuck?

OK here is the deal. about once every 3 to 4 weeks my car does this from a stop position.
I will put my foot on the gas to go foward from a stop and it will not move for a few seconds. it kinda like you hear the car rev up and its not going anywhere for a few seconds then it lunges forward and i can continue driving as normal.

I do not know what to call this. is it hesitation?

This thing happens at random and not often. it can happen once every 2 weeks then go for a month withouth it happening. it started when the cold winter started
What could be causing it. is it the transmission? is it something i can probably live with for a while? i am someone that has no money for repairs. i am in really a bad financial state. i only need my car for another 6 months. i need to know if i can possibily go for a while without worrying. I plan to move in july to a place where i can walk to work. my car has 76,000 miles on it, almost all is highway miles

I am editing...... i checked my fluid HOT with engine off and it read WARM on the dipstick. I then later checked the level HOT but with the engine idleing and it had no reading at all. i would think its safe to say i need to add fluid. is it best to add fluid with the engine cold or add it when its hot and still idling?

the best thing you can do go to auto-zone get a bottle of trans-magic put it in the tube for transmion this stuff cleans bearings seal everthings and runs a lot smoother after running the car about 100 miles you will be a believer

if its not getting any worse and your going to get rid of it, just let it go and drive it, as long as its not bothering you. sounds like its in the tranny.

sounds like ur transmission is messed up. thats not cheap though. id worry about it because someone must have been running that thing pretty hard if it does that at 76k.
