Teeth pain when i sleep?

I grind my teeth is i think what the proper term is. What i do is, the lower front teeth of my mouth is pushing the top front teeth of my mouth. So my top front teeth is bendin forward. This is painful, and i did it for a while now. It hurts sooooo bad that it woke me up. I think it has something to do with the psotion i sleep in, so i try to keep my mouth open wider and not close when i sleep, so my lower teeth dont push forward(hard to explain but try to bear with me) Im scared my teeth are going get lose and i lose my two front teeth. Can someone help me?I also heard of something called a teeth gaurd, should i get that?what does it really do?Im sorry im typing a lot but this means a lot to me. Please help me .

Yes, you should get a mouth guard (this is what you mean by teeth guard :) )

You can have one special made to fit your teeth, by a dentist, or you can go get a cheap one from a pharmacy (this one will be bulkier and might be a bit uncomfortable).
Custom made ones are often expensive -but if it's causing you pain (and wearing down your teeth) then it's probably very worth it.

What you are experiencing is call "Bruxism" which is the grinding of your teeth, either when you sleep, or when you are awake. It can cause teeth breakage and sensitive teeth. Schedule an appointment with your dentist to have an "occlusal guard" made that fits over your lower teeth. It will protect your teeth from grinding against them. Bruxism is also caused by stress. If you don't already, incorporating working out into your schedule to help reduce stress. Oh, BTW, occlusal guard are often not covered by insurance and can cost anywhere from $100 - $500. Inquire about a NTI device as well.

Joel, I am a dentist. You need a night guard. Just go to your dentist and tell them you need a soft night guard. Mine cost $150, I don't know what they will charge. Here is why you need it. I see 40 year old adults everyday that have ground and worn their teeth down and it looks terrible and it all could have been solved by having night guards. You grind (bruxism) due to stress. You where the night guard, it will protect your teeth and keep them healthy for a long time, it will also give your teeth a smooth plane to glide on at night and you won't be sore anymore.
