Social worker visit.? |
i had a social worker visit my home today following an incident with my ex, where he smashed my property, and stamped on all my groceries in an uncontrolled ' blow out ' with me last weekend. i did call the police, and asked them to prosecute him, and i have taken legal action with a slicitor., as i do not wish to be married to a man who behaves like this. however, although i cooperated with her,and she was seemingly a lovely person, i feel bad that social services have become involved. i have no intention of letting my ex back, and have taken approriate action regarding his behaviour..but i feel bad anyway, is this the usual thing to happen if the police are called to domestic incidents ?? as she said the police were the ones who automatically forward details if kids are involved. thanks xx A DAD. no, my kids had loads of toys out, but tthey are clean and clothed and fed and stuff.Their dad has done this load sof times before though, and the social worker said that its routine coz he was so aggressive and violent to us. i let her see my home and their rooms and everything, and she said it was ok If I am honest , I would say to you , is there any other reason that you can think of that the police would have made a referral. They just have to make sure the children aren't in any immediate danger from being in a home where domestic violence has been or is taking place. Don't feel bad. They weren't there trying to find something wrong with you. It's just a precaution to make sure your children stay safe. yes it is normal, id be concerned too, social worker have a hrd reputation to cover ... they tend to be overprotective or not protective enough, never seem to get things right wow this is a little Jerry Springer. but probably standard procedure. It is standard procedure for Social Services to investigate any time there are kids involved. I have a friend who lives with a violent partner and I have called the police loads of times when he has kicked off as she has children and social services have never been to hers!! Yes they want to make sure the children are not in danger. I admire your attitude towards a man that you consider a negative influence on you and your kids ( I am assuming there are kids? ). Good riddance. Social services get involved for a number of reasons like when there is domestic violence, when a child is treated for injuries that may be suspected to be incurred as a result of abuse or neglect, when someone calls the hotline to report possible abuse/neglect, when a child is a witness of a violent crime...etc Don't feel bad that social services got involved. You had to do what you had to do. It is usually a good thing for them to intervene if there is real abuse or neglect. Even if none of that is going on in your home, they have to check it out to rule any harm to the children. Did your children witness any domestc violence? Then maybe you should seek counseling for them. A DAD social workers do not intervene if a house is simply untidy. |
