The Government now say local beat bobbies should be contactable by the public by mobile phone? Fine, I don't have a problem with that. However where is the forward planning in this latest innovation?

Did the Government mention this plan to my local Chief Constable, who has recently invested hundreds of thousands of pounds of our hard earned taxes on a brand new call centre?

Did the Government mention this plan to the local Chief Constable before he employed many new members of staff in this call centre?

How far ahead do this Government plan?
Why don't they consult with those in charge or the public services in advance so as to save public money?
How much longer do we have to put up with theses "knee jerk politics" and sheer incompetence?

There will be no substance to this.... same as always, quick soundbite so the "dumb public" think the Government are doing something.... then let it quietly slip under the table.
A good example of this is the metal detector to be used within certain schools, Government announced it 3 yrs ago, 2 years ago and late last year - same idea, brought out periodically to make it seem new.

On the topic of the mobile phone..... how are people going to get the number? Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you track a mobile phone? i.e. criminals will know where the copper is!!

When will he/she be allowed to switch the phone off?

They haven`t got a clue , either natinol or local .. WE are the people and until we realise that again and vote for what we want we WILL be walked over

I cannot see this direct approach working somehow. What about the hoax calls? The emergency services on 999 are already jammed up. My bet is that the bobby on the bear where I live will be bombarded with silly calls all day and night. Poor sod.

I have a much better idea. Record the request by speaking with a live person who should Log it and give you a ref/no. The message is then passed on by the register receptionist to the Cop on duty.
Phoning a Cop directly over a mobile supplied is not practical .
