Should you tip at a fast food restaurant and call in orders at restaurants? |
We have a fast food chain called, "Sonic" and you order your food at the squawk box, pull forward and wait until someone comes out and delivers your food to your car and you drive off. Should I tip or not? I've noticed many restaurants offer curb side delivery and the question remains, should I continue to tip or does tipping only apply to services given while eating inside an establishment? My friend and I had a similar conversation on this topic not long ago. I firmly believe in tipping if the person serving you makes waiter/waitress wages which are below minimum wage (but they have to pay taxes on the 'supposed' 15% tips they receive). The ones who bring the food to the car from a restaurant I will give a dollar or two - they are not serving throughout a full meal and I'm not taking up a table. At Sonic, tips are appreciated. I tip at Sonic and the other curbside delivery type places, but not at a regular fast food or drive-thru. Although these people make minimum wage (unlike most waitstaff), they have still gone to the trouble of coming outside into the heat, cold, rain, snow or whatever to bring my food, so they deserve a tip. I used to be a waitress at a very busy restaurant, and I had to take to go orders over the phone and then pack the to-go dinners, and this did take alot of my time. And I did not get tipped for that however I should have at least recieved a $1.00. no. |
