Does it usually take long for a colleges to tell you if your application was accepted ?

why do you think it takes soon long for admission/colleges to tell you if youre accepted to their college/university... but they want applications and information to be sent throughout a certain time no day later than that? its like their waiting on people to call and ask them about the application... ive been calling about my application for 2 days... I havent spoke to anyone who knows about the applications or whether they accept/decline my application.... or they forward the call to voicemail
I at least want to know if they received the informatio I sent... is that too much to ask?

I'm not sure what kind of college you are talking about. At a university, it takes months to sift through thousands upon thousands of applications to make these decisions. Realize that at any school, there are some applications which are automatically rejected because they don't meet the stated standards or are so inadequate that the school just isn't interested. There are a few which will almost certainly get accepted because they stand out from the rest in a very positive way. And there are the vast majority, which have some good points and some bad ones, and which then need to be weighed against one another to decide which ones will be accepted.

I can tell you that in my department we recently had to choose five students, out of ten applicants, to which to give a scholarship. It took us two weeks to read the materials (which were much shorter than the average college application), discuss, and agree upon which ones to choose. Now imagine doing a more extensive process for 500 times as many students. It does take a long time.

I am surprised that given that most applications occur online these days, there isn't an automatic response given acknowledging receipt, but your calling won't speed anything up. They will let you know if you have been admitted when they make their decisions, and not before that.

Try finding the direct line to the registrar's office. Also, many schools now offer online services to check the status of your application. If you also applied for financial aid or work study, the financial aid counselor is probably your best resource, and will give you info much faster.
Keep trying - they may process a hundred or more apps a day!
