Do the Suns need 5 guys downcourt for a fast break?

People are all over Shaq saying he'll slow the Suns down, but how many people does it take to run a fast break? Shaq can get rebounds, throw the outlet pass and the other 4 can sprint downcourt. If the fast break doesn't work, Shaq will be lumbering into place for the half court offense.

People forget that Kareem was a snail compared to the rest of the showtime Lakers and everyone called him lazy. (But he, he was just 40 - not lazy). But, Kareem blocked shots, got rebounds, and still contributed 10-20 points on offense.

This situation sounds similar and I think the Suns just took a huge step forward in becoming a playoff contender (which they just aren't without a true center)

Plus, I think the chance to mess with Kobe and get ring #5 will help motivate Shaq!

Everyone needs to look at it this way--The Suns always needed more defense, and Stoudamire wasn't enough. Now they have a Shaq and a Stoudamire, thats double the defense, double the blocked shots, and double the dominance--and now they have a solid half court game, with Stoudamire's mid range abilities, Nash's 3 point shooting and driving, Hill's mid range jumpers, Bell's 3 pointers, and Shaq's dominant posting up.
They only need 3 guys to run around--Nash, Bell, and Hill. Now they're a running team and a solid defensive team, and I can't wait to see it work.

that's what i've been trying to tell people! all they need shaq for is his defense. nash, bell, hill, and stoudemire can outscore 90% of the league. the diesel would just clog the lanes for hill and stoudemire anyway. i'm sure that shaq will do his best to trim dwon to 300 lbs. to become a little more agile and efficient.

Well it was usually Amare and Shawn at the wings and Nash in the middle..While the 3 point shooters lined up for an open 3..

The suns offense is about more than just fast breaks. It's that every player is really fast and can shoot really well, so it is very hard to defend against them. Now where does shaq fit into that?Besides shaq will never be content to just play defense. He wants to be the #2 guy on offense at least. He wants all the attention all the time. This is besides for the fact that he is getting older and unless he keeps his weight down he has no chance of finishing the season.

dude you smart..yes... i really think it was actually a good move by the suns.. they want that championship... and are as close as never before..... if only shaq is healthy.... see if shaq cant play at all...then o man... see what happened tonight.. with Marion in the line up... the suns wouldn't have to even go into the first overtime... well shaq still putting numbers that 70 percent of the leagues centers wish they where doing.. so wanted a center and defensive presence below the rim... what better man for the job than the big fellow!!!!

Finally, a smart dude posting question about Shaq going to Suns....Well, at first it is sad to see Marion go, But w/ Shaq on their lineup, Amare can go to PF, Shaq at center. Their interior defense will be tight. Fastbreak plays of Suns will not be that affected after all. Im looking now on the positive side of the trade. Shawn will be surely miss for his exciting dunks and high octane offense. Suns fan dont feel bad about it anymore... Shaq will be a great help especially when facing againts the Spurs.

Very good point all you have to worry bout now is Shaqs health in the playoffs!
