If you look at what I refer to below, do you think it really is time you seriously comitted to Christianity?

In the News and Events section on YA, John asks a question about a very large asteroid closing in on the Earth. His link shows it on YouTube. The asteroid is called TU24.

It probably won't hit the Earth.

Is that good enough? No.

I am a Christian and I am assured of my destiny in a perfect, joyous and loving world with God. Christians around the world are all looking forward to such an existance. Many are not afraid of death..as we understand it.

I am not afraid, honestly not.

For those of you reading this.....if you are not a Christian....please see it.

I somehow expected the kind of answers so far.
Let me say this: the reason why Christians try to preach about God is that they are not only commanded to by God but they are actually trying to save people, in fact all people, good and bad, anyone who will properly listen. Most of us are not trying to really scare people, just that we care about people and about them finding a relationship with God. Sometimeas it appears that scare tactics are being used, and I am sorry about that, but we actually care about people. Surely that is a good thing.
Now instead of telling me off, how about simply considering God.

No, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Ruining my life by committing it to a non-existent god on the off chance that an asteroid will hit the Earth AND that god will somehow make my 'life' better after the asteroid kills me is a ridiculous idea. Does this sound like a remotely good idea to anyone?

If it does happen, and your God does exist (note YOUR god, as someone else's might exist instead), I still won't fear death as an atheist. He'll either appreciate that I tried to use the brain he gave me, or he's a petty tyrant who condemns billions of decent folk who didn't stroke his ego. If it's the latter case, I'll be among good company in hell.

You know.... most mass-extinctions on Earth in the past few billion years have been caused by sea-level change... global climate readjustment on a seriously long scale.
Slightly less have been the result of volcanic activity.

The number actually down to bolide impacts are minimal at best.

And honestly.... I'd like to see the world get smashed to buggery. It'd be a hell of a way to die.

Salvation isn't an insurance policy, hon - sure, it's a nice bonus, but you belive in God because you think He's real and that He makes sense, not because you're afraid of death.

Well, if "making a commitment to Him" was what He asked me to do, I just might consider it, but its NOT!

He has asked me to believe in the death, burial and resurrection of His Son on the Cross as sufficient to reconcile me to Himself. This involves NO commitment, nothing I can promise and then break due to my own inability to do so, but simply a RESPONSE to something that God has ALREADY accomplished FOR ME.

A commitment to God is NOT the gospel. It will NOT save anyone. It is a "churchianity" phrase that has NO power to save because its NOT the good news God has told us to tell others.

The bible warns us to get out of Christianity. Refereed to as Babylon the Great , the world Empire of false religion.

I'm sorry but you have not put forward a convincing case for religion. The reason I am an atheist is that I don't believe there is a God. Only conclusive proof will convince me.
Are your reasons for Christianity simply that your scared that if you aren't Christian something bad might happen after you die? That doesn't sound like an absolute faith in the almighty to me.

I think if there really is a God...which as an atheist I don't believe, he will see in to the hearts of those who are good people. If he is all powerful and all forgiving then those people who are good will be admitted into the kingdon of god. The "pits of hell" were an invention by man to keep the populace under control in the middle ages.

Alternatively we might all die. I am sure Christianity should not be used as an insurance policy.

I'd like you to consider this...... I am an Atheist, always have been and always will be. I respect your right to practice your religion and would never belittle your beliefs. Why then do feel the need to impose your beliefs on me? If an asteroid is hurtling towards us, I have faith in Bruce Willis to save us....... Do you believe that?

I am happy with my belief system - I live a good life and I dont feel the need to place unrealistic hope in a god that I dont believe exists. If you do, thats your business just please stop trying to "save" everyone - you are just preaching and that is NOT an attractive asset. Live and let live - if people wanna find god, let them. Personally - If that asteroid was about to hit earth I know for a fact that I would be spending my last few moments sharing a bottle of champagne with my loved ones rather than in church praying.
