Moving into new rented property, do they check employment?

I am moving into a new flat, first I have to fill in reference service forms. They ask about previous letting and employment. The problem is I have just left my current job and I am in the process of finding another job.
Do they check that with my employment? Could I use a friend who has a business as my employer (even tho i dont actually work there) ??

Yes, they will definitely want to know about your employment. The landlord needs to know that you'll be able to pay the rent.

Please don't say that you're employed by your friend, as not only will you be lying, but you will also be implicating your friend who will be asked to confirm the information.

I'm moving into a new rented property on Friday.
Had the same types of questions on my forms and I wouldn't advise putting in false info but you will know if you can afford the rent or not.

I was asked for my company's name and a contact at work. I put my manager's name and he was never contacted.

Not saying they won't check - but in the past no letting agency has ever contact my work.

Hope that helps :)

I'm a landlord. Tell me the truth. I will rent to you if you are honest. I want tenants who are honest and honorable and pay the rent on time. Convince me that you are all of the above. /

How are you going to pay your rent if you just lost your job? Are you confident you will get another?

I would think that it would be very very difficult to rent an apartment with no job.

Sure...I dummy up references all the time...but wouldn't it be better to get the job first? Will save alot of stress in 30 days.
