A service which marks over explicit words from books?

I would enjoy reading the work of some authors but I find their work containing words I find so offensive I am unable to get past the first few pages. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a service which will marker over offensive words from books I either send or purchase through the business. I remember a local VHS store in my city that did that with video tapes, but I've never heard of this being done with books.

I hear what you're saying and i do agree. i think some of the answers here just show peoples' ignorance. unfortunately, i don't know of any place or service that does this.
ps. censorship is when you force everyone to stop reading a particular book or when you want to try to force authors to stop writing books with explicit language.
it sounds like what you are saying is that you want to read particular authors, but feel the language is either excessive, unnecessary to the story line, or just plain offensive.

Umm -- it's called "censorship", and it's generally frowned upon.

If you don't like the explicit language, then write the publisher and tell them that you refuse to buy their books if they insist on publishing books with explicit language.

Then stick to the Religious Fiction part of the bookstore, because unfortunately, the explicit words are currently fashionable and a fact of life.

My father never cursed, yet was able to overlook offensive words without a thought and was an avid reader of writers who used powerful language. They are simply dark marks on a page and cannot hurt, sully, or corrupt you if you don't let them.

Yeah I agree, maybe you just should stick to Happy Sunshine books about bunnies and the such..

A teacher of mine marked out all the "naughty" words in a book with "friendly" substitutions scrawled on top. Highly annoying..

Maybe you should stick to reading picture books or s children's books.
