Not having luck looking for a job, hold BS in Human Services?

I have a BS in Human Services. I also have an AS in Administrative Assisting. I worked in business as an administrative support professional for about 15 years before going back to school a couple of year ago.

I completed an internship but did not get all the experience I wanted. I wanted to work with children and families. (At the time I had a child abuse neglect record which made it difficult to get the right type of internship but it has since been cleared up and no longer appears on my record.)

I did substitute teaching this past school year just to have a job but also to gain experience working with teens. I really want to work with teens but would be willing to take any job that works with families in need.

I think I have a good resume but I can't seem to find a job at all. I have gotten maybe one interview out of dozens of applications sent out lately. Is there anyone out there willing to look over my resume and help me to improve my employment chances?

Of course, there's lot of school who needs your service, but i can't promise that you can have a good salary there!
As far as i know ,teachers don't care about the wages they received, but the thoughts and lessons that the students gained from you is the best reward!

You find jobs through networking! Networking is critical for finding a job -- you need to be on the minds of people who know about jobs that you might be qualified for.

Call people you worked with at your internship, in any volunteering activities, and even your previous professors, and let them know you are looking for employment. Ask them to review your resume and offer you advice on how to make it more representative of your skills and experience.

Also, contact the career placement office of wherever you got your degree and let them know you are looking for a job; they may have specific job leads.

Volunteer, since this increases your networking opportunities and gives you practical experience. Don't just stuff envelopes -- look for opportunities where you will counsel and advise people in need (a domestic violence shelter, a homeless shelter that has career counseling. Planned Parenthood, etc.).

If there is a local association of social workers, join it.
