My rights and Social Services? |
My mom is on Social Services in NYC, she got a letter saying that she was being investigated. It said to bring her bank statements. The thing is, she has no bank accounts. So what are they asking? She cashes her child support checks for my 3 younger siblings through my account. Are they allowed to get into my personal info? I called my bank to find out, they said that even social services is not allowed to do this and that there was no record of an investigation. I am confused. How do they know my information? Now, lets say I have a friend who asked me to hold his money in my account because he couldnt get an account, this is my private business and my friend's. How would this play into this situation? I just dont know how they would have the right to do this. Can anyone share any pertenant information on this? Thanks a million. Well they know about her child support checks as she has reported it, but she has no bank account to cash the checks so she uses mine. Also, I am not a contributor to the household so I would not be responsible for any income since I am not held liable to contribute. So my question is, how is it they got into my account when my bank says that it is impossible? And if it was me being investigated then why didnt I get the letter? She has no bank accounts, so that is where my confusion is. I just dont understand this. Any thoughts? There are so many people who are scamming social services, they probably can do whatever they want. If your mother uses your account to cash checks that would be pertinent to their investigation I would think they would have a right to look into it. Especially if you are one of the people benefiting from the money she is getting from them. Your family is being supported by taxpayer's money, don't you think they have a right to know that it is legally needed and being used for that purpose? If you don't want the government snooping around in your private business then don't apply for aid. It's kind of ridiculous to think you can take money from them then tell them to mind their own business. She should tell them just what you said, that she does not have a bank account and she uses yours to cash her checks. I wouldn't think that they would have the right to look into yours. |
