Can someone please help me with service mark question?

Hello, Let's say my business name is Computer Help SM. That "SM" is supposed to mean service mark, i don't know how to make it the right way. Anyways... since my business is not a trademark, am i allowed to sell people computers? or give them computer parts with some of my services....such as backing up their data with a hard drive? im confused :(

It's not the service or trademark you need to be worried about. That only tells people that you are claiming a particular business name.

What you need to be concerned about is licensing in your area. If you are in business and do not have a business license, please get one. Even if you are just "DBA" (doing business as...) you may still want to call City Hall and see what the requirements are in your area just to be safe.

The SM or TM comes in when someone else pops up with the same business name as you. You are not required to file with the USPTO but if you plan on doing business nationally I would suggest looking into it and also doing a search to be sure no one else already has that business name that does the same thing you do.
