How to release an employee?

we are a small business growing, how would i release an employee from working with our company?

she works 3 days a week 5 hours each day. For right now, we are slow and do not need her services anymore. we are not firing her, we just do not need her right now because work is slow.

How would i release her legally?

it would be a lay off just like any otherr company does, however contrary to the othe answers she would not collect unemployment as she is part time.

It depends on which state you live in. You could lay her off and then when business picks up she will be rescheduled for work.

By being layed off she is able to collect unemployment as long as she was an employee and not a contract employee. Contract employees never get unemployment unless they pay their own unemployment taxes.

Just tell her the way you told us.

It just sounds like a layoff to me; tell her there just is not enough business to keep all of your employees, but if/when business picks up you'll give her a call. As the business owner, you have the right to fire/lay off anybody for any reason except sex, age, ethnicity, etc.

You may, but don't have to, offer a small severance package. Whatever amount you deem fair based on the length of time she worked for you.

Its called being laid off. She can file for unemployment and more than likely will get it.
Tell her the truth just like your parents taught you.

Just tell her that busness has been slow and that she can come back when business is booming

you lay her off.
