Is it okay to call a company if they haven't called you a week after you filled out a job application? |
It's been a week or two since I applied to a lot of places for a job, and they haven't called me. Should I call them to see if they are interested in hiring me or should I just wait. But I need a job soon and I'm getting impatient. No one is calling. Most places I applied are stores like Macy's, Albertson's, Blockbuster, Partyland, as a cashier or customer service. And I do have other job experience. I'm only 18, I've worked at some restaurants, as a cashier so maybe they think I'm not experienced to work at their companies. I don't want to get another restaurant or fast food job- I want to get a job in a different business, and not the food/restaurant industry. You can try calling, but most employers will either string you along (lie) or give you the runaround. If they're interested, they will let you know. When it comes to job hunting, no news is usually bad news. It's perfectly fine to call in and inquire. Just call in and say you are really interested and wanted to know if they are actively hiring at all. Or, you could dress up nicely and stop by to inquire. Don't try to call them as they can have a negative opinion about you, as a person asking many Questions... Go back to these places and talk to the HR people or manager in charge of hiring. Good managers only hire people who want the job. Going in(with a hair cut and wearing appropriate clothing) will tell that manager you want the job. Those type of businesses (which I've worked as management) it is ok to call them. It shows that you are very interested and make sure you convey that over the phone when you call. Good luck hope you get hired!!! I would leave it another week. Most jobs have a cut off date and you may have applied early. Leave it a week and if they dont contact you ........... go kick *** in the same boat myself, Yes, it is ok. Retailers, video stores, and supermarkets are inundated with applications from 18 year olds. They have little to on to screen them out other than experience, an employee referral, or your persistence. |
