Andre has asked you to evaluate his business, Andre鈥檚 Hair Styling. Andre has five barbers working for him. (Andre is not one of them.) Each barber is paid $9.90 per hour and works a 40-hour week and a 50-week year, regardless of the number of haircuts. Rent and other fixed expenses are $1,750 per month. Hair shampoo used on all clients is .40 per client. Assume that the only service performed is the giving of haircuts (including shampoo), the unit price of which is $12. Andre has asked you to find the following information.
1. Find the contribution margin per haircut. Assume that the barbers' compensation is a fixed cost. Show calculations to support your answer.
2. Determine the annual break-even point, in number of haircuts. Support your answer with an appropriate explanation. Show calculations to support your answer.
3. What will be the operating income if 20,000 haircuts are performed? Show calculations to support your answer.
4. Suppose Andre revises the compensation method. The barbers will receive $4 per hour plus $6 for each haircut. What is the new contribution margin per haircut? What is the annual break-even point (in number of haircuts)? Show calculations to support your answer.

1. Price = $12, Variable cost = Hair shampoo = $0.40
CM = $11.60

2. BEP = TR = TC or (Unit x Price) = (Unit x VC) + FC or
Unit x CM = FC. So,
$11.60 Unit = ($1,750 x 12) + ($9.90 x 40 x 50 x 5)
Unit = $120,000 / 11.60
BEP Unit = 10,344.83 or 10,345 unit

3. Profit/ Loss = 20,000 x $11.60 - $120,000 = $112,000

4. Assuming that $4/ hour is still FC
VC = $0.4 + $6 = $6.4
CM = $12 - $6.4 = $5.6

Unit x CM = FC. So,
$5.60 Unit = ($1,750 x 12) + ($4 x 40 x 50 x 5)
Unit = $61,000 / 5.60
BEP Unit = 10,892.86 or 10,893 unit

sounds like you need to do your own home work.. count the money made if 2000 cuts are made a month divide by 2080 hours a year per barber and you should be able to see straight....btw...2080 is the number of hours in a year for 40 hour work weeks minus vacations and holidays. ect.
