Im geting a business degree. I want to get into marketing. I have one more class to pick. Class should I take?

MKT 141 Electronic Commerce Strategies - 3 credits
MKT 150 Marketing Applic. for Computers - 3 credits
MKT 240 Advertising - 3 credits
MKT 250 Consumer Behavior - 3 credits

I've been in the Marketing business for about 15 years. If I were to advise you, I'd strongly suggest that you take the E-Marketing class.

So much of today's marketing is Internet-based. The more thorough your understanding of how it works, the more marketable you will be to a future employer.

I don't think that traditional advertising will ever go away entirely, but so much of what was once within its power to provide and deliver has been supplanted by the Internet.

You have a good choice of classes to take there, but take as many e-commerce and Internet based classes as you can and you'll be better prepared for the future.

I would recommend something with modeling or understanding database segmentation. It's been a long time since I was in school, so I'm not sure what types of classes are offered on these subjects. One thing that everyone in marketing needs to know is who their target audience is. Usually you have several niche markets that you want to target in order save money and not have to communicate with everyone. Understanding a company's customers comes from analyzing the database - the customers and their buying patterns. Even if don't wish to be an analyst, chances are you will work with them and need to request info from them. So understanding how data is used would give you a huge advantage if you plan on working with any large companies.
