IS SEO only for IT?

Can I perform as a consultant or run a SEO business service without any IT experience?

You need to know how a search engine operates to be able to optimize a website so that it is always in the top 10 for certain search terms. You could probably get in as a consultant in marketing so you can tell them which terms best relate to their products and website, but I think you will need some IT knowledge to do everything else.

I think it would be very hard. I have done full time SEO for 12 years and use my IT/CS degree background for everything I do. I'd say, thinking back over the past week, I spent 50% of my time involved in programming-related tasks, network-related work, and statistics. I feel that marketing is far, far easier to learn, so I recommend coursework in Internet technologies (TCP/IP, servers, databases, web crawlers) and Math (Statistics, multivariate testing, experiment design) business (Economics, Biz Communications) and Creative (sales writing, user interface, and graphic design) as a background for SEO/SEM.

yes , you can run SEO business without any it experience.. you need to know about some term comes in coding part ..like alt tags, titile tags, meta tags and hyperlink and etc ..for onpage seo you need to know these things ..or you can hire any other person who have good knowledge of these things.
