I want to find my birth father, but mom sealed file. How do I get it?

My fathers name is in a file at a social services building in a town in my state because my mother was going to give me up for adoption. When I called up there they told me I needed my mothers signiture to see the file. I asked my mom and she sealed the file. She says it is her life and none of my business. She insists I am not a product of rape, so how do I get into that file?

There's probably a very good reason that file is sealed. I'm guessing you have this idea that you will meet your birth father and he will "complete" you - you'll suddenly have a better sense of who you are, and where you come from.

Chances are better than your mother is trying to protect you - not protect herself. Put it in perspective - your biological father abandoned your mother - and you - once already. Maybe she is trying to spare you this pain again.

Your birth father most likely knows where you are. How about you wait for him to contact you.

You should mention to your mom that it is your business it is your father if she doesnt want you to know then you will probably have to wait until you are between 18 and 21, you will need to have your parents written permission. If you are over 21 you can search for dad without her permission
try and consult an attorney because you do have a right.

i think u have the right to know your real father is. u mentioned rape. sounds like your mother was raped. if so, why would u want to know that person is. if there was no rape, that will be good. another way u could probably find out is go to the hospital where u were born. they probably got that info. or get a lawyer. u got rights to know.
