Landlord Missing In Action?

So, I live upstairs from my landlord's electrician business and haven't seen him or his workers in about 3 weeks. There has been a strange car parked in the lot and all of his work (and one personal) trucks lined up on the other side. Being as we live upstairs we usually see the landlord 2-3 times a week and hear the workers getting ready downstairs on a daily basis. His cell phone is not in service and the business number downstairs comes back with a fast-busy signal.

Rent is due in 2 days and I always just drop it off to him, but not sure what to do now. We are thinking he might have run off somewhere...or he's dead!

I've researched foreclosures and don't see any for our property to date. The ladies at the gas station next door say they also haven't seen an employee in weeks.

Our lease expired last November so we've been living with a month-to-month situation. I just don't know what I should do now. Any suggestions?

put a note under the door. saying to come to your place to pick up the check.

make your rent payment - on time- to an escrow account in a bank. open a new account for this purpose. if and when he comes for it you will have the rent money plus a deposit slip (SAVE ALL!!) to confirm you made the deposit on time. my guess is that he closed his business, and possibly is in default on the mortgage. if this is the case, you will hear from the lender soon enough. best to protect your credit score and honor by making thse payments.

Contact your local authorities explain your situation and you would like to know if he is deceased or possibly has been incarcerated.

I would possibly contact the police to see if they had heard anything regarding him. He could be a missing person or gone to jail for all you know. Weird situation...

review your lease and see where the lease instructs you to deliver rent to.
