Can you convince me to buy a Mac?

OK, here it all is.
I need Windows XP Professional (w/ Service Pack 2), Vista Business or Vista Ultimate for college, because my major (Engineering) requires that I use that and Office 2007 Pro. It also requires me to use the data intensive program Matlab v14 that runs on XP/Vista.
The problem is I was eager to get a Mac laptop as a graduation present, because I know how great they are with video editing and things like that.

This is a dilemma.

Question: Can I still get a Mac, and run XP/Vista smoothly on it? Will the XP/Vista on Mac work for well for other Window's software like games and rendering?

If this is not the best option, then what is?

Thanks!

Hey! I'd be glad to help.

A Mac is indeed the right choice. Let me explain:

Running windows vista or xp on Mac OSX is so simple, all you need is a copy of the retail install disk.
Because the program you use is data intensive, I would suggest using Boot Camp, which comes with every mac. This will allow you to boot into Mac OS and Windows.
And the best part: your Windows operating system will run at native speeds! All of your games and programs will run as smoothly as ever.

Also, Microsoft makes Office for Mac OSX as well as Windows.

Another thing you might be worrying about is viruses. Just get some good protection for Windows, and thats it. I have had my MacBook Pro for 10 months: no viruses, spyware, adware. No anything! Mac OSX Leopard is an extremely secure operating system. And there is also no need to worry about malicious code sneaking on to the Mac side of your hard drive, its not possible. And even if a Windows virus somehow gets on your Mac OS side, just simply delete the file, it will do absolutely no harm, because it was made for Windows, and only runs on Windows.

Hope this helps! : ))

you can buy video editing programs and download them onto your vista

Like most professional software, Matlab can be run from Windows, Linux and of course Mac OS X

This, as always, depends on how strong/fast/powerful the Mac Computer is.
