Does This Congressman have it right?

Tim Walburg, (R) Michigan has proposed that we increase our energy production. He has recently co-sponsored a bill H.R. 3089, the No More Excuses Energy Act.

This legislation would impact the price at the pump and lower our electric bills.

It would encourage the construction of new refineries, boost alternative energy development by extending the Wind Production tax Credit for 10 years, increase American oil production by environmentally sound drilling in Alaska, the Outer Continental Shelf, and the Gulf of Mexico, and help increase our supply of electricity by encouraging the construction of new nuclear power plants.

This, instead of Congresses proposal to increase taxes on domestic energy production. He is working to decrease dependence on Middle East Oil.

Not only would this energy act increase energy supplies but create new good paying jobs, help businesses, truckers, farmers, families and emergency services.

Ignorance: I read the bill prior to posting and I recognize prok, and it is not there!

Red the sad truth is that the government is is really our enemy as stated in a question I posted here in Georgia the combination of state and federal gas tax is 62 cents a gallon that is $2.17 for a $3.50 gallon of gas as you can see there is no incentive for them to want to legislate a increase in supplies unless the citizens demand it. As for Donkey is name fits him well it is the Democrats in bed with the radical environmentalist that has prevented our increasing our energy supplies.

I am all for anything that will bring about more nuclear and wind power. I am not thrilled about any legislation that would increase drilling or refining capacity in and of itself however (but that is not to say I am completely opposed to it on the face of it).

We need to be working on actual alternatives. Not biofuels either BTW...but real alternatives. It is time to stop playing with this and do it. Resources and finances need to be applied to that end and applied immediately.

He has the right idea, but will it pan out? I thought the tax credits that we have been giving the big oil companies were supposed to do the same thing. If this is just an expansion of the same ideas, it doesn't seem to accomplish much.

Yes, those are the things we need to do, but the legislation needs to guarantee that progress will be made in a short time frame. We have been offering the energy companies carrots. Maybe we need to include a big stick as well.

So I did a little google searh on this to find out some details and came across this little tidbit of information.

Also, as others pointed out. The gas and oil companies do not want to build new refineries. They have been closing them down so they can control supply and keep gas prices up.
