Should I do this barter?

I have a cosmetic service that costs about $3500. I have a client who is a realtor. We talked about the possibility of a barter my service in exchange for $3500 out of his commision on the sale of my house. Since discussing it, I have found that I won't need his real estate services for a year or longer, however he needs my services now.

Should I:

A) go ahead with the barter, allowing him to use my services now, and cash in on his services next year.

B) Collect half on my services now so I don't run the risk of something going wrong (he could die, go out of business, etc.) and then barter on the remaining balance if and when I need his services.

C) Cancel the proposal to barter and simply pay each other for services rendered.

D) Other suggestion..

Dont Barter! House prices are constantly falling up and down. And your house may not be worth that much in a year, or you may change your mind about selling it.
Tell him to make some real cash dont try and risk it

it's risky going forward with your half now - he could quit being a realtor in the next year, then you're SOL - the individual realtor only gets 1/4 of the total commission on a sale anyway - is the whole transaction commission going to be worth 14000 or more ? (house selling for at least 235,000 at 6% commission? - if not, you're likely to get screwed out of your part of the deal

I think C would be your safest bet. Unless you sign some form of legal document between the two of you, there is no way to know for sure if you will ever get your side of the barter. By then he will have already got what he wanted and have no compelling reason other than his honor to do his half of the bargain.

I say go with what everyone is saying, just tell him that you don't need his services for the next year and as a business owner you can not give services out and wait a year to be paid it is just not good business!
