My Dell laptop got destroyed by a former employee, I've paid for every warranty they offer, what can I do?

The warranties I have are
Complete Care Accidental Damage Service, Inspirion 3 year, Dell Hardware Warranty plus onsight service, initial year.
Dell Hardware Warranty plus onsight service, extended year
Type 3 Contract, next business day parts and labor onsight response, 2 year extended.

My employee stole the hard drive, and took my power cord while he mailed the laptop back to me in a box far too big for the laptop (purposely done). Now it won't turn on. With my warranties what options do I have? It's a Dell XPS 1210, and I want it to work :(. There were no pieces of the laptop moving around inside of it.. help!?

Should I say stolen? lost?

The hard drive was taken by the employee saying he has personal data on there. There is no power cord, but I brought the laptop to a shop where a cord of equivalent amps, voltage etc. was used, and none of the indicator lights turned on, nor was there any response to buttons pressed.

To use the term "employee" would be to use it too casually. He was a friend that wanted to help grow our company and we sent him a laptop in that pursuit. He didn't do anything for us so we had him send it back, and that was the result.

With the accidental damage covered by Dell's warranty you may be able to have them look at the problem, troubleshoot, and resolve a couple of basic issues.

Based on everything you've answered I have the following questions for you:
1) Does the machine currently have a Hard Drive?
2) Have you verified that the battery is in place and tested to insure it is charged? (Should be a set of indicator lights on the bottom portion of the PC, you may have to press to get them to illuminate).
3) Do You have a replacement power cord?

My recommendation is to photograph the laptop, the box it was shipped in, and keep all related documents for the shipping.

Chances are you will need to replace the stolen items and should keep all paperwork necessary for the purchase, including bank statements or credit card receipts to show that you have paid for the replacement parts.

Finally you should collect any and all correspondence you have with the former employee, highlighting those regarding this laptop, and send one final correspondence requesting the amount owed for damaged and/or replacement parts. If the individual fails to pay you for the items you can at least take them to small claims court; it sounds like you have a solid claim.

If it's deliberate, report it to the police. Document the state of the laptop. Then contact Dell and ask why the laptop was returned to you in such a condition. Betwee them working from their end, and the police working from your end, you can quickly prove it to be the former employee, then sue the *** off them.

Dell wont do anything if you say it was stolen or lost, that's not their department, that the police. If the laptop is damaged you send it to dell and jjust tell them what happened, if they can do anything that will, but I've never had great experence with dells support. Which is one of the reasons why I no longer deal with them.

I would however contact the police about this, as it is property damage.
