Is removals a good business to set up? |
My husband is thinking of setting his own business up, buying a van and offering a removals and clearance service. Is this a money making business or is it a waste of time? We dont want to loose anything as he has the main income at the moment! I know somebody who started a removal business after leaving college, he was very successful but it still took him about 15 months before he could show a profit, and profits are what a business is all about. His other comments were all about moving heavy things up and down stairs. The best thing to do is check the yellow pages for your area - if you see more than 5 or 6 removal companies, then it's probably not going to be economically viable unless he can offer a much better service. (Not always easy to do when other businesses are already well established) He should set it up part-time and see if he gets enough business so that he can do it full-time. If you are in an area without much competition in this field and enough people to have steady work, it sounds like a good idea. I imagine he would need 2 people so that they can lift heavy objects. not a bad idea at all. Lots of people don't want to have to mess with this sort of thing. |
