Is removals a good business to set up?

My husband is thinking of setting his own business up, buying a van and offering a removals and clearance service. Is this a money making business or is it a waste of time? We dont want to loose anything as he has the main income at the moment!

I know somebody who started a removal business after leaving college, he was very successful but it still took him about 15 months before he could show a profit, and profits are what a business is all about. His other comments were all about moving heavy things up and down stairs.
He sold his business and I got to know him as he and I work within the same networking opportunity, we both work from home and out income potential is huge.
If you would like to know more email me.

The best thing to do is check the yellow pages for your area - if you see more than 5 or 6 removal companies, then it's probably not going to be economically viable unless he can offer a much better service. (Not always easy to do when other businesses are already well established)

It is a business that can definitely make money, but it is also a time sink. It's a hard job that can be pretty back breaking with very long hours.

He should set it up part-time and see if he gets enough business so that he can do it full-time. If you are in an area without much competition in this field and enough people to have steady work, it sounds like a good idea. I imagine he would need 2 people so that they can lift heavy objects.

not a bad idea at all. Lots of people don't want to have to mess with this sort of thing.
If he doesn't mind something messy...and before you even ask, no, it's not a joke; this is an actual business that makes a LOT of money for those who can do it:
Cleaning crew
....Of violent crime scenes. I worked with a fellow who did this in northern Virginia. We cleaned up blood and ...bits, if there were any....and got paid a LOT of money for it. I made roughly 150$ a job, we went out maybe three times a week.
