Can Internet Expenses Be Deducted from Your Taxes? |
I'm self-employed and work from home. I have a home office and use my internet service for my business 75% of the time. My work is done solely online and I couldn't do my line of work without the internet. Can I deduct a portion of these expenses from my taxes? Yes. Take 75% of your internet costs, and include a note of explanation. These probably go on Schedule C. Internet access is treated like basic phone service by the IRS. It's not deductible unless you have a second line strictly for business use. However if you have to purchase a business internet connection the excess cost over and above the highest cost consumer account is deductible. |
