My mechanic ripped me off?

My engine was making noise and i had just bought the used car so i took it to the shop and was told my engine mounts needed to be replaced along with spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. the cost of labor alone was over 1000. wow i thought that was high so i bought the parts and took the car to another mechanic who said all i needed done were the mounts and to take back the other parts. he did the work for 200. Now a month later one of the mounts has turned out to be defective, and the original mechanic wont refund any of my money for the unneeded parts, or the defective part which has caused about 400 in additional damage to the mechanics of the vehicle. I've reported them (ocean pines auto service center), to the better business bureau and am waiting for a response but in the mean time i'm out over 300 in worthless parts and 400 in new repairs because of the defective part!!!!!!!! is there any justice for the consumer anymore?? Apparrantly not.

The only recourse you have at this point is small claims court. It's very inexpensive, you don't need a lawyer, and depending on your state (http://www.nolo.com/article.cfm/ObjectID... you can sue for up to $25K.

you see where you messed up was thinking you were being ripped off the first time when it was the second guy that robbed you......

The first shop was trying to get you set up so that you would have a fairly decent running car when they got done....and the labor price for what they were doing really was a little high although some cars the motor mounts require a lot of time so it is possible that it was a reasonable price....and they would have guaranteed the work....
the second guy is a moron.....anytime you purchase a used car you should do all the maintenance so to get it on a schedule that will keep your car running at optimum performance......by telling you you don't need that stuff he just effectively shortened the overall life of your new car.....on top of that the reason the mount failed is because he probably only replaced one motor mount when really all of them needed to be replaced........the other mounts were weak and put extra stress on the new mount and caused it to fail.....

Now you will have to go pay 1000 plus the original 200 that the first one stole from you.....not such a bargain now.......HUH?????

You bought the defective part so you are responsible for it not the mechanic.

When you go to a mechanic and they supply the part they usually double its price . That allows them to guarantee the part so if it is defective they will generally replace it free for a period of time.

It sounds as if you bought the parts from the first mechanic. Why would you do that? If he didn't do the work he should be responsible to replace the defective part if it was guaranteed.

As to the unused parts , it depends on the return policy of where you bought the parts. If they have no returns posted or on the receipt then you are out of luck.

It looks like you don't understand the way things work and tried to save some money on the parts and then expect others to help you out when things go bad.

In general if the parts aren't expensive but the labor is then you should eat the increased cost of the parts that the mechanic makes to insure that the mechanic will guarantee the parts and labor.

I don't expect you to pick me as the best answer for telling you that it really is your mistake.

The original mechanic did not do the repair, or provide the parts, why should they be responsible?
