How do I convince my school to start a Model U.N. club?

My school is a Jesuit school in NYC and its very strict on starting clubs which I want to start. The Asian Culture Club failed since they are strict on those kind of groups that center on one culture since it may cause racial tensions. The Junior Health Project will likely fail since it only introduces students to the medical field. It does this by making them aware of certain health conditions they will deal with and includes helping those who have them through fundraisers, walks, and visits. They questioned why it wasn't a club concerning law, business, or teaching. I really wanted to start the model U.N. club, but it is likely that they will tell us that there is a debate team already as well as Amnesty International. How would I convince them that it is different? (Model UN club) What can I do to convince them? (Model UN or Medical Club) If I cant, are there any club ideas. Just so you know, there is already a community service and environmental club which everyone suggests?

I think that what you are trying to do is great. We need more youth like you to want to be a part of this type of club. I suggest that you research the debate club and the Model U.N clubs around the country. This should help you be able to come up with a well articulated argument about the differences between the clubs. Good luck with this and I hope that the websites help.

The way it works in most schools is that you get several students who want to participate, then find a faculty sponsor who is interested and will run interference with the administration. The notion that you can't have a club unless it appeals to everyone and everything seems odd to me.
