Is it fair for voters to evaluate the public choices Obama has made?

Since Barack Obama has never had a significant private sector job, has never run a business, has never been an executive, has served in national government for less than three years and avoided 120 key votes during his brief service in the state legislature, it's hard to evaluate him on his non-existent record.
So are voters stuck evaluating the public choices he has made, to calculate what sort of president he would be?

No, we're not stuck. All we have to do is listen to what Obama says and believe him. He would never lie to us. We also have his friend Oprah to inform us and guide us through the issues. She knows what's best for us more than anyone else. The world is falling apart because of traditional families, personal responsibility and Christianity (to name a few), and if Obama wasn't The Answer, Oprah never would have had him on her show! You get twenty lashes with a wet noodle for asking such a silly question. How dare you attempt to think for yourself!

I think you've got the horse in front of the cart. It's not fair that voters don't take the selection process seriously. That hairstyle and looks and smoothness of speech are deciding factors, but all the great hair and looks and chit-chat mean diddley-poo when the time comes to run the exec branch of the Fed Gov't.

It's absolutely fair.
Unfortunately, Obama's supporters have done far less evaluating of him as their choice for leader of the free world than you have for this question.
