Question about starting a business?

So I'm looking to start my own business and basically the business is a service based business. Basically what the business is, is a business where I do peoples chores for them....dry cleaning, grocery shopping etc. Does that sound like a good idea and why or why not?

yes it sounds like a good idea, with the aging of the U S and the too busy lives of the working families, any help they can get would be good.
The biggest problem that you will face is trust. Most people in today's world are wary and not trusting. If you attend a church approach the older people in the church to see if they will use your service. Since some of these people probably have known you for a while this would be a good start to your business. If they do not buy into it, then your community may not be ready for this kind of service.
The other issue is how you would price such a service, of course that is a another subject.
Before starting any business be sure that you have enough capital in the bank to keep you living at the level you are used to for at least 6 months preferably a year.
too many businesses fail for this reason.

Good Luck

of course... but you must determine your target market (who, where, why) and market to them. give them a reason to buy your services, make it worth their money.

do a business plan and bring it to a SBDC near you and they will help you.

So you would be like a personal assistant?

It could do well, depending on where you are located. In a large center with a high number of tech jobs and corporations you might have a mainly professional client who needs you to do a lot of running around for their dry cleaning, walking their dog, taking their car in for service, etc.

In a smaller community, or one with less corporate business, you would probably have a more senior client who is in need of someone to do their shopping, yard work, etc.

You will have to be careful with your fees and time management though. You could burn a lot of time on one clients list of duties and get little money in relation to the time spent. Other clients will have to wait in line.

Definetly, a lot of people work in this field. Specially now that north americans do not have time to do things themselves. Try calling some of those people and ask for quotes of how much the services are so you can be competitive.....you might even start offering bundle services to begin with.
